The November 2007 meeting minutes were approved, as amended, by voice vote.

3.   Old Business:

A.    City Council (LAS CRUCES) – (Tamie Smith) Home rule was discussed and developed as an issue. (Steve Carter) The meeting with the County Manager hasn’t happened. But he will be in Santa Fe and we will meet there. I will report back at a future meeting. (Steve Fischmann) During the City Council’s meeting the City Staff is whispering in the ears of the Mayor and Councilors during the time for public input. (Alex Burr) By law Las Cruces does not have to permit public input at any meetings. But it would be wise to allow it.

B.    Board of County Commissioners Nothing on the County or the County Budget.

C.    Board of Education (LCPS) Nothing. They did have much input on the location of the new High School.

 D.    NMSU Board of Regents (John Lazaruk) There has been significant positive change in the Regents meetings. There have been multiple inputs by the public. See Report.

 E.     Common Cause New Mexico The Executive Director made the statement that the National office is interested in the election financing issue. They are sending people to work on / monitor Public Financing of elections. (John Lazaruk) The National Board Chairman (Republican) stated that he is working with the National President (Democrat). Common Cause is working together. The next meeting of Common Cause New Mexico is April 26th. They need the names of representatives from the 2nd congressional district. The National Office says that Common Cause New Mexico is very active.

5.           New Business: Annual Luncheon: April may get more attendance. Either Steve Carter or Jim Kadlecek will talk to Pres Martin, who should be interested in being the speaker at our Annual Luncheon. We will try to have it at the Fulton Center. (Tamie Smith) Do we get Public Input at the City Council meetings? We should.

 6.    Next Regular Meeting;  February 20, 2008

 7.    Adjournment - Steve Carter adjourned the meeting at 12:25PM

 Respectfully Submitted,
