NMSU Board of Regents 11/17-12/12/08

The Board of Regents held meetings in November and December. The agendas for the two meetings are available at the website, http://www.nmsu.edu/Administration/regents_meeting.html. You can also find minutes for previous Board meetings there.

During the November  meeting, the Regents discussed the termination of the Presidential search, and the postponement of additional actions until a new board takes office next year. The Board blamed the withdrawal of all five candidates for the Presidency on the New Mexico law requiring the candidate’s to appear on campus and their names made public. The Board also expressed their support for Waded Cruzado work as President, and encouraged her to apply for the position when the new Board starts another search next year.

The December meeting was the last meeting for Bob Gallagher, Steve Anaya, and Student Regent Ed Kellum. There were three public comments at the start of the meeting. The first, by Char Frank, called for the creation of a committee to investigate the failed Presidential search before starting another search. Liz Ellis, head of the Finance Department, acknowledged organizing the controversial brunch honoring Waded Cruzado, and described the limited role Laura Conniff played in it. The third comment focused on the historical preservation efforts on the campus. You can find a complete report on the meeting at the Sun-News website, http://www.lcsun-news.com/ci_11222357?source=rss.

The consent calendar and action items on the agenda were approved, and a report was presented on the bookstore contract with Barnes and Noble.

The next meeting of the Regents will be in Santa Fe on February 2, 2009.
